Dozens of Tires Slashed, Car Smashed in Home Park

Incidents happened Sunday at a condo building on 14th Street.

Several Home Park residents woke up early Sunday morning to find the tires slashed on their vehicles.

Approximately two dozen cars were vandalized between midnight and 3 a.m. at a condo building at the corner of 14th and Francis streets, according to resident Dan Whisenhunt.

"There were several vehicles damaged," Atlanta police Maj. Chris Leighty, Zone 5 commander, said in an email. "However, there were witnesses and a tag number given of those who may have been involved."

Later in the evening, around 10 p.m. on Nov. 6, the windows and headlights of a Honda Accord were smashed with rocks inside the building's parking garage, according to a police report.

"Last night, the residents had to patrol the condo," said Whisenhunt, who was victimized Sunday morning. He said he spent around $850 replacing tires on his car, as well as his wife's and mother-in-law's vehicles. "We didn't know if these people were coming back."

He said no personal items were stolen from the vehicles.

Monday afternoon seven cars, each with four flat tires, still sat in the parking garage of the four-story condo building located near .

Witnesses told police that three men smashed the Honda Sunday night. Police described the suspects as one black male and two white males, between the ages of 18 and 20. They were last seen driving a white-colored vehicle with Georgia tag BTI-3267, according to a police report.

Leighty said Zone 5 investigators will work the case and an officer will meet with affected residents at a meeting tonight.

Whisenhunt said some residents believe vandals are to blame.

"There's been some gang tagging going on in our neighborhood," he said.

A Zone 5 officer took pictures of the tags Monday afternoon and sent them to the gang squad with the Atlanta Police Department.

"It's just a shame," Whisenhunt said. "We are all hardworking people. We want to feel safe when we come home."
