Fallen Trees Damage Cars, Home

A severe storm Monday night causes property damage.

UPDATE: 4 p.m.

Several trees in Midtown fell during a severe storm Monday night. The fallen trees caused property damage and power outages.

One tree crushed two cars on 8th Street.

“The earth made like a big thud,” said Josh Connolly, who lives on 8th Street where the tree fell. “All the car alarms started going off.”

Neighbors said no one was hurt. Connolly’s Honda Civic narrowly missed getting hit by the fallen tree.

“I’m going to buy a lottery ticket this morning,” Connolly said.

Another tree fell on a house on Myrtle Street. Others were down around Ansley Park, including on South Prado and Beverly Road.

Georgia Power officials said, in a tweet about 4 p.m., that around 39,000 people in metro Atlanta still are without power.

"We've restored power to nearly 400,000 customers today," the Twitter message said. 

Around 4 p.m., parts of Ansley Park still were without power, according to resident Josh Irving.
