Georgia Tech Police See Increase in Theft from Vehicles

One suspect was apprehended last week, but others are still being sought.

From the Georgia Institute of Technology

The Georgia Tech Police Department (GTPD) has seen an increase in entering autos within several campus parking areas in recent weeks. One suspect was apprehended the morning of Wednesday, May 7, but others are still being sought.

To avoid becoming a victim of an entered auto, here are a few steps to take:

  • Practice the “clean car” rule by removing all valuables from the interior of your vehicle when you leave. Place these items out of sight or take them with you.
  • Also put away loose change and evidence of electronic devices such as phone chargers and GPS mounts.
  • Try to park in highly visible and well-lit areas, even within a deck.

If you notice anyone behaving suspiciously, such as looking into vehicles or loitering in parking areas, contact GTPD immediately at 404-894-2500. Following these steps will reduce the chances of your vehicle being entered and help keep thieves away from campus.
