Georgia Tech student robbed at gunpoint Wednesday

Victim allegedly held up outside a student resident hall in one of two campus crimes reportedly committed Wednesday that Georgia Tech police is investigating.

A Georgia Tech student was allegedly the victim of an armed robbery late Wednesday evening, one of two reported crimes on the Midtown campus Wednesday being investigated by the Georgia Tech Police Department (GTPD).

Earlier in the day, around 11:45 a.m., a Georgia Tech faculty member reported that he left his office in the Love Building unsecured and when he returned approximately five minutes later, he found an unknown male suspect in his office.

The victim confronted the suspect, who struck the victim before fleeing the building, which is located at 771 Ferst Drive. The suspect, described as a black male, between the ages of 20-25, standing 5-foot-8, with a thin build, was last seen in the area of Ferst Drive near the Student Center wearing black pants, a blue t-shirt and a black jacket with a white stripe down each sleeve.

He left behind a backpack containing stolen property that had been reported stolen from the Boggs Building on campus on Nov. 27. The victim sustained minor injuries.

Later Wednesday, at approximately 11 p.m., a male student working as an on-duty Housing Peer Leader, reported that he observed three suspicious males outside of Harrison Residence Hall, located at 660 Williams Street.

As the student approached the males to question them, one of the males brandished a black handgun. The student's belongings were stolen and the three males were last seen on foot headed towards North Avenue. There were no injuries reported.

All three suspects are described as being between 18-20 years of age. The man armed with the weapon is further described as standing 5-foot-10 with a heavy build, a tattoo above his right eyebrow and earrings in both ears. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a white hooded sweatshirt.

The other two suspects are both described as having a thin build and standing 5-foot-8. Both were last seen wearing black pants with a black short sleeve shirt over a white long sleeve shirt.

This is intolerable. One shooting, and two robberies in ONE night near Midtown. Can we all say 52% pay raise? Shame on our city council. Wake up!

See this is what happens to Atlanta when you tear down all the housing projects Techwood homes, Carver homes etc and give the people vouchers to live anywhere they choose now you have an intermix of these low income families mixed in the rest of soceity. But the stupid Housing Authority did not teach the families with the vouchers now you are in regular society you can not just rob, steal and kill at will in the community you live in anymore, you are not in the projects anymore, that was okay there when you wanted to kill off each other when you were in the project but now you must act as civilized in soceity. Some these families have generations of thugs & ignorance past down & now with the voucher they can live right next to you or in your community and now they rome thru these communities & just pick there viticms, lately it seems that they are picking the communities that they know are a easy target now you see what hard working educated Afr Amer go thru everyday in a black community I guess we are just suppose to get along with the killers & robbers because of our skin color. Hell before the vouchers you knew not to travel near certain housing projects now they maybe your neighbor & live right next to you in your high-rise condo if the owner wants a steady income. Now you see how it feels to see death & destruction in your our community or near your community & can not do anything about it. Just a taste what people have been dealing with for years my caucasian friends.

So you'd prefer that we just keep tracts of Atlanta hopeless slums? Vouchers have allowed people to get out of dangerous and depressed areas and most people who get them do not commit any crimes at all.
Todd Smith December 07, 2012 at 10:10 PM
That is what the politicans tell you that they dont commit most of the crimes but truth of the matter is they do I have owned several homes across Atlanta in some of now gentrified areas and had Atlanta Housing Choice (section 8) tenants "you can put lipstick on a pig but it is still a pig" and majority, not all of them were the worst to the point I will not use the tenants anymore just pure ignorance and what do you think Atlanta is becoming???? I will tell you a "hopeless slum" very close to Detroit.
