The Georgia Tech Police Department is investigating a pair of armed robberies that occurred minutes apart on campus early Tuesday morning.
According to the GTPD, at approximately 1:30 a.m., a male student reported that as he was walking south on Brittain Drive towards Bobby Dodd Way, he noticed a man walking closely behind him.
The suspect approached the victim, displayed a handgun, and demanded the victim's belongings. The suspect was last seen entering the back of a silver four door sedan headed west on Bobby Dodd Way.
At around the same time, a female student reported that as she was walking east on Bobby Dodd Way towards Fowler Street, she observed a silver sedan driving towards her. A male exited the rear of the vehicle, displayed a silver handgun and demanded her property. The vehicle was last seen headed north on Techwood Drive.
There were no injuries reported in either incident. A black male was described as the suspect in both crimes.
Report any information regarding this and other criminal incidents to the Georgia Tech Police Department by calling 404-894-2500 or by emailing crimetips@police.gatech.edu.
Ridding the nation of Victim Enrichment Zones would go a long way towards reducing crime.
50 years after MLK, boy is he rolling over in his grave. Well, he had a dream and it's now a nightmare. 50 years of government programs, housing projects, food stamps. Time to gate up private communities, hire private security and send the kids to private school.
Clearly everyone is entitled to an opinion and to share how they are feeling. But please explain to me how constantly stating that it is black males committing these crimes in every case in Atlanta is driving the conversation forward? I could go on for days about how these types of statements are rarely supported by actual facts, historical trend data and non-misinterpreted statistics, but I won't because I'm not going to waste my time trying to convince someone of something they truly believe (whether or not it's supported by facts). The real question I have is what solutions, policy recommendations, changes, innovations, etc... are you recommending to actually IMPROVE the situation at hand aside from pointing the finger at black males? Do you suggest that we lock all black males away (wait, pretty sure we're doing that already) or that we revert back to the good ole days of Jim Crow south when blacks and whites were separated? Sarcasm aside, I really would like to know how these types of comments help. If any thing they seem to create further divides (racial and other wise), offend and anger others, and stagnate what could be productive dialogue and conversation.
