Investigators Find Pot Following Midtown Fire

Six families displaced in 3 a.m. blaze.

Fire investigators suspect a space heater was the cause of a fire at the Victory Group Apartments in Midtown early Sunday.

The 3 a.m. fire displaced six families, including eight adults and two children, fire officials told WSB-TV. There were no injuries reported.

The news station reported that investigators found a number of marijuana plants in one of the affected apartments located at 29 Peachtree Place next to the Mac's Beer and Wine parking lot.

Atlanta police spokeman Gregory Lyon told Patch that APD Zone 5 officers were alerted of the marijuana plants and the case is now being investigated by APD's Narcotics Unit.

No charges have been filed at this time.
