Longtime Atlanta news anchor charged with DUI after wrong way crash in Midtown

Fox 5 Emmy Award-winning journalist allegedly was driving her vehicle north in the southbound lanes of Piedmont Avenue early Sunday morning

FOX 5 News anchor Amanda Davis faces multiple charges including DUI following a wrong way, head-on crash early Sunday morning on Piedmont Avenue in Midtown.

According to an Atlanta police report, Davis allegedly was driving her vehicle north in the southbound lanes of Piedmont before hitting another car just before 12:30 a.m. The accident occurred near the intersection of Piedmont and 14th Street.

Neither driver was injured in the accident that resulted in significant damage to both cars. According to Atlanta police spokesman John Chafee, Davis admitted to consuming alcohol but refused to submit to the "Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and refused to submit to the State Administered Chemical Test/s."

In a addition to DUI, Davis was charged with failure to maintain lane and reckless driving. FOX 5 reported the incident on its website late Sunday and management issued a statement saying it was "currently investigating" the incident.

The Emmy Award-winning Davis has been at FOX 5 since 1986 and co-anchors for the station’s news at 6 p.m and 10 p.m.

That's too bad, I enjoyed watching her, unfortunately she broke the law in a very public way. Hopefully she will be able to rebuild her life.

People who are sick don't always know they are sick. Don't be so quick to judge someone. She made a horrible choice... one I'm sure she'd make differently if she were not sick. I know... I've been there and the added pain of the public humiliation and the lack of support from the people I worked so hard to inform almost caused my death. Judge not least ye be judged.

I'm sorry, but that comment was difficult to read because of the mistakes, and it scares me to think that adults (I assume they are an adult) are that bad at spelling and grammar.

I'm praying for her,her family, and the victim because its a No win situation.I wish we had a transit system that traveled more than 20 miles past the city.
al green November 13, 2012 at 03:24 AM
So what do people say about you behind your back? What secrets are you keeping from others? Humm,I wonder. Karma is a strange thing baby.
al green November 13, 2012 at 03:29 AM
Your concern as well as your comment if fake and laced with gossip like statements after a Sunday morning church visit. What help do you need? Stop finding a thrill in another's demise. If you are going to show real concern, call Ms Davis and ask her if she ever need anything you are willing to help.
al green November 13, 2012 at 03:32 AM
Wow,jealousy. You just have to do better and try harder to get to where Ms. Davis is. You can do it but you won't find it as long as you hate on others.
al green November 13, 2012 at 03:35 AM
So what wake up call do you need? How or what does your family really think of you? Humm, don't be so sure. Be careful of taking pot shots of others. We all fall short.

Who that is without sin, cast the first stone. My prayers go out to Amanda Davis

Wow, you people are a trip! Maybe that person is from another country and doesn't write English correctly. I think most of you really need a life, I can't believe I sat here and read these comments. I won't again, because then I have to voice my opinion. And that's a huge waste of my time.
Elizabeth November 13, 2012 at 02:24 PM
Agreed, Bernita! So thankful no one was seriously injured.
Cassandra November 13, 2012 at 03:37 PM

The only thing that me respond to this is the negative comment about this news anchor. No one is perfect, I have been fortunate to never have a DUI, but that's not to say I could never have gotten one. I had too many friends get one and I decided that i would rather leave my car anywhere.... I have a very good friend that is a top news anchor in Miami, and I would hate to see her like this... I heard this chic Amanda is a good girl, who made a mistake. You people sound like the Trashy Staff at TMZ, lay off of her and leave her alone!
Atl Resident November 13, 2012 at 04:34 PM
By the way what does Obama have to do with this? I can't stand Obama, but this chic's arrest has nothing to do with that disgusting President!
Chris H November 13, 2012 at 05:39 PM
What could I possibly be jealous about? I do quite alright myself. It is stupid to drive if you've been drinking. Period. Especially when there are so many other options to get you home. I don't want to be where Ms. Davis is. She is the one with the DUI, not me.

I was really surprised Fox 5 News reported the story like they did, as though they had no connection or relationship with her, whatsoever.

I feel great

Bernice - I am a bit sensitive about this issue, because I know of so many people who have lost their lives due to selfish and careless people who drank and drove. I remember like it was yesterday, a friend from high school, whose brother was killed on Delk Road, in Marietta, because of a drunk driver. I remember the pain that family endured. I harbor no hatred towards Amanda Davis and am glad no one was badly hurt or killed. I hope she gets the help she needs and gets through this.
ChrisCrossdresser November 14, 2012 at 07:27 PM
Was she FARDING while driving?? Even NIGGARDLY FARDING is just as bad as DRUNK DRIVING; DON'T DO IT LADIES & TRANNIES!
Tannesha Sanders November 17, 2012 at 11:03 PM
What people need to do is focus on praying for Amanda Davis. We all make mistakes, no matter how bad the situation seem. God is the only judge u can count on. Pray all is well

Anyone taking bets as to whether she'll actually end up in a DUI class? Trust me when I tell you she won't be there. Money talks...

Davis has taken a leave of absence from the station "handling personal matters" according to the WAGA vice president of news. Her court date has been set for Jan. 9, 2013. http://www.myfoxatlanta.com/story/20185834/fox-5s-amanda-davis
