Officials still attempting to determine whether the man was already dead before being struck by the CSX train.

A 55-year-old man lying on train tracks near West Midtown late Wednesday night was struck by a CSX train.

On Thursday, officials were still attempting to determine whether the man was already dead before being struck by the CSX Train K80201 near 762 Marietta Boulevard.

According to Jones, the train was proceeding at nine miles per hour when the incident occurred around midnight. The train’s engineer indicated to police investigators that when they saw the man they sounded the train’s horn, but the victim “never moved or gave any sign of life.”

The train’s engineer was unable to bring the train to a complete stop before hitting the man.
