Man shot, killed outside Ponce Ave apartments

Man believed to be in his early 20s was shot Monday near complex next to Ponce City Market development

Update: 1 p.m.: The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Lee Lowery.

Original story: A man who Atlanta police say was shot in the breezeway of a Ponce de Leon Avenue apartment complex near Midtown has died as a result of "at least one" gunshot wound.

According to Atlanta Police Department spokesman John Chafee, officers were called to the Ford Factory Lofts, located in the Poncey-Highland neighborhood next to the Ponce City Market development, around 5 p.m.

The man, who appeared to be in his early 20s and has not been identified, was originally transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in “extremely critical condition.”

The apartments entrance shares the same parking lot that contains the local landmark Kroger grocery store, which has a not-so-endearing reputation due in part to a murder that took place in the parking lot a decade ago.

On Tuesday morning, several Ford Factory Lofts residents making way to their vehicles confirmed to Patch that the breezeway pictured with this article is where the shooting occurred. One resident pointed in the direction of the front rightside of the breezeway as to where the incident was concentrated. Another woman said there was "lots of blood" and "it smelled."

Anyone with information on this shooting is asked to contact Atlanta Police Homicide Investigators at 404-546-4235 or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.

Cassandra, Id have to agree with Linden and many others. Lee was a good buddy of mine. What he was, or was not doing is not information that needs to be typed out on a message board. This case is still under investigation. I know we are all hurting, but please find a better way to cope. Your bluntness and insensitivities to the situation are doing way more harm then good. He was a good man, with a kind heart, who lost his life. Be respectful and leave it at that.

Truth hurts people, good people do stupid things

If you're a person judging Lee from what Cassandra is saying, then that speaks to you. I appreciate Cassandra's info. I have found more often than not that message boards tell more of the story than will ever get out in these types of stories. I'm not judging Lee and feel sorry for his family and their loss. I am just curious to know more about the story. I don't care if drugs were involved or not.

Cassandra, or whoever you are, have some respect. You're fucked in the head. I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate it if someone talked in such a disrespectful and slanderous manner about someone you were close to who suffered a similar fate. Please do the world a favor, And fuck off.
Davina November 14, 2012 at 04:28 AM
Jesus Christ Cassandra. You are deplorable. You "facts" are so skewed and not necessary at this point. Lee was an absolute great KiD! He played sports in our community and was friends with all of our sons. I drove him to play soccer and loved for him to visit our home. A drug dealer? Your scope of what qualifies someone to receive this title is very judge mental. Lee went to college and wanted his life to be valuable. I will choose not to believe your accusations at this time and mourn the loss of contributions to this community and his smile that lit up the world. Lee's mother is undeserving of your accusations and we find them in total poor taste. I consider you to be quite frightening and will pray for you. Please show respect because whatever caused his murder does not change the fact that Atlanta does have many problems. But Lee was not one of them.
Davina November 14, 2012 at 04:34 AM
And people in your building should worry. There are a lot of things happening in all areas of Atlanta. A family in the suburbs should be concerned of desperate, ruthless people committing crimes. But the reputation of your building is so much less concern than this bright young mans life. Something is wrong with you.
Llllllll mmmmmmm November 14, 2012 at 04:48 AM
Less sad ???? CLICKER get off this story you know nothing you are unbelievable , no empathy
Davina November 14, 2012 at 05:29 AM
And one more thing Cassandra. To try and skew an investigation into a ruthless murder by deeming his life less valuable is unfair to his family and friends. If you had a family member who was rumored to be an escort and she was murdered, would you like for the police to treat it differently because of rumors? How dare you take a single minute of time that Lee and his family deserves in this investigation by APD!
lady luck November 14, 2012 at 05:58 AM
i think cassandra should be questioned by the apd on her relations to the killer, since she OBVIOUSLY knows so much. maybe she was that gettaway car. ignorant twat. i'm sorry for everyones loss.

If anyone has any information regarding this murder and robbery, please, please tell the police. Even if its anoynmous, please tell investigators to help find the person who did this.

In the video, you can see that the killer is wearing a white "Billionaire Boys Club" sweatshirt. Those things cost over $125, so it is kind of a big deal, and somebody, somewhere has seen him wear it many times before.

Lee was a great kid working hard for a future as a pharmacist. He was a kind, well mannered young man. It is a tragedy that he was taken so early, he will be missed.
Jeannie Sarli November 14, 2012 at 01:55 PM
I'll be seeing you one day, Lee. We are all going to miss that infectious smile.
Claire Wilson November 14, 2012 at 04:00 PM
How is it possible that the police have all this information that you seem to be the ONLY person to know? Also how can you know all of this information, yet not know if Lee was 19 or 20 just mere hours ago? You are an incredibly insensitive person, and your accusations are no doubt unappreciated by everyone who's lives had been impacted by Lee.

Cassandra you should have some respect. Its sad to see how you are enjoying this tragedy. Your posts seem very suspicious to me. So , stop pretending you are a good citizen trying to do good for community. Can't you see that it doesn't matter? One thing I can assure ,your words , your gossip comments ,for sure kills more than any harm Lee could have done. Lee left us too early, too soon... His beautiful smile will be with us. He was a nice kid, a HOPE student, a sweet son, a special grandson, a loyal friend. He will be missed ;( Trying to understand will not help. Anger even less. He was robbed and killed! Why? Because this is life, and shit happens! The only thing we can do is to make sure we appreciate life, making people around us happy. Because This is our legacy. My family is greatful for the time together RIP Lee Lowery

I agree with you lady luck. And thank you. it is a great loss, indeed . As Jeannie said, "...that infectious smile" :( Cassandra, do us a favor, have some respect and find a book to read other than 'Gossip Girls".

Wow, I would like to comment since I live across the street from this dump and can see this scene from my living room window, but since this entiore thread will obviously be used in the investigation, I dont feel like being dragged into court. Let me just comment that when you allow a known drug infested, prostitute/drug dealer hangout like MJQ to thrive unabated on this corner for years, what the hell do you expect to happen? Drive to this corner any weekend night aropund 1-3 AM and you will see a hundred more possible homicides on the verge of being committed.
BornBredKing November 14, 2012 at 05:27 PM
Some of the comments i have seen on here are TERRIBLE!!! I cannot believe people have no empathy for human life. I did not know Lee but do know his family here in NC and has heard nothing but good things about this kid. REGARDLESS of what he was doing there, his life should not have been taking. MAY GOD TAKE LEE AND USE HIM AS AN ANGEL AND MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO THE LOWERY FAMILY!!! RIP FAM. & I say fam because that's what we are in GOD'S eye's! lovelivelife

leave the homilies for the funeral home memory boards, this board is for the facts as to what actually happened so neighbors know whether to worry or not when they come home with a bag of carrots. It says "shot, killed" in the title, not "remenisce about grade school"
justice November 14, 2012 at 10:26 PM
Shut up donnieR.
justice November 14, 2012 at 10:28 PM
Shame on you Stephen W. Ramsden.

I think Cassandra knows the killer better than Lee. What's up???? Who are you???
Kroger lover November 14, 2012 at 10:49 PM
anybody shot there today with a bag of carrots?
Kroger lover November 14, 2012 at 10:50 PM
so, what was in the bag??
Kroger lover November 14, 2012 at 10:50 PM
what was in the bag that guy wanted so badly? answer that and there is your motive
Kroger lover November 14, 2012 at 11:19 PM
I am glad none of you super sleuths are in charge of trying to solve this terrible crime. Looks pretty straightforward to me, and applying Occam's Razor, the poor man was killed for whatever was in that bag. So, what was in the bag? If you knew the victim and the person he was visiting, call the police and tell them what you think was in the bag. If not, you don't have relevant information so save it
Michael December 20, 2012 at 12:41 PM
Thank you Cassandra. The information is totally relevant to the safety of the people living in that area. Knowing that it was NOT a random happening makes a huge difference. You presentation was a little harsh though.
Kinder Gentler Messenger December 24, 2012 at 10:15 PM
arrest made. Antonio Johnson, a/k/a "Trigger" is his street name. He is a local. Apparently the police identified him pretty quickly after the crime, but didn't find him until this weekend. And yes, it was a drug ripoff after all, duh, not a stranger on stranger crime

Davina: Why is being a drug dealer a bad thing? Why can't someone be a drug dealer and a great kid, a drug dealer and play sports, a drug dealer and have a valuable life? You are the one who is judgmental if you think someone selling drugs to other adults is somehow bad or wrong, especially when you consider that the people who sell and transport the things that actually kill people in this country - cigarettes and alcohol - are working in "respected" jobs, like behind the counter at a gas station, in a grocery store, or drving the beer delivery truck. Selling marijuana and even meth (yes, meth... look up how many people die from that drug and you'll see it's at the bottom of the list with marijuana) and other drugs is not nearly as bad as the legal substances that we get from the licensed dealers, aka pharmacists.
