Midtown Fight and Shooting Caught on Resident's Cell Phone Camera

A pack of partygoers fight after a club in Midtown closes for the night

WSB-TV posted late Saturday night a video received from an anonymous Midtown resident, who captured a ruckus fight and shooting outside of a club in the Midtown corridor.

An APD Communications officer told Midtown Patch that there were not many details about the shooting that they can share.  They said that they believe it started due to, "an argument between a crew from Florida and a crew from New York."  APD says the argument and disturbance took place outside of the Aurum (on 8th Street) and at some point, a shot was fired from a moving vehicle."

According to the WSB article, "Atlanta police said one of their off-duty officers found himself in the middle of the commotion, trying to break up the fight." That officer can be seen holding an individual down and arresting him for, "disorderly conduct."

Officer Jones informed Patch that,  "no one was injured and the primary aggressors had fled the scene. The identity of the shooter is unknown."

This is not the first time that a fight and shooting occurred after the clubs in the area have closed.  A number of 8th Street residents told WSB that they are fed up with the near weekly incidents and commotion.  They want something to be done, but both the clubs and the valet service that has been accused of helping to start the commotion say that the incidents occur after they have closed and it is not something, "they have control over."

How long can incidents like this one on Saturday continue before a stray bullet flies through the window of a unsuspecting resident in the area or even worst someone is shot and killed?  That is the question that Midtown has for both the Atlanta police and the clubs that cater to these young late-night partygoers who conduct themselves like common thugs.

Is that where Aurum was on 8th? Not that it matters b/c the crime in Midtown keeps getting worse regardless of what part of Midtown you are in & we all know why b/c of the statistics that most people in this PC town are afraid to speak out about. Since we now have generations of fatherless & irresponsible mothers as supposed parents of these kids and that train isn't stopping anytime soon, Midtown may have to become more of a walking area w/o car access at night in certain areas. Obviously police foot presence would need to spike up. It is done in other cities and may not be the best answer but at least a start. This is so sad b/c I have invested hundreds of thousands of $$$ in this area & it is being spoiled by people that don't even live here & contribute to the high local taxes that I pay.

I live at 7th and Juniper and heard the gun shot around 3am. Then saw all the police cars congregate around "The Lawrence" and going up by Wells Fargo. There were even police cars driving down Juniper going the wrong way to get there.....there was a heavy police presence almost immediately but they also quickly left. Left me wondering if they caught anyone since they all left so fast.

And Midtown Blue is literally right around the corner from this spot and yet are never anywhere near when this crap happens

Those damned 40-something Asian women keep ruining our neighborhood. I know the solution, build more soulless massive parking decks on prime street fronts, encourage more night clubs, keep massive homeless shelters in Midtown, ignore blatant drug deals along Ponce and Boulevard, then step up mid-morning police roadblocks on Myrtle Street to catch old ladies going to Publix without their driver license.

Reading the WSB article, it states that the area "clubs" close at 2am. Wrong; they close at 3am. The restaurants close at 2am. They are not the problem. The parking lot behind Bulldogs is another problem area, particularly from the Thursday night crowd and then leaving at 3am Friday morning. APD and Midtown Blue continue to ignore those issues too.

As long as we allow packs of UNCIVILIZED animals into our neighborhoods and clubs, these incidents will continue to happen...but we dont want to STEREOTYPE, do we???? When are u going to get ur PC heads and of ur PC butts and face the facts people???

What Club were these people leaving from?! -concerned midtown resident
clancey December 22, 2013 at 11:36 AM
So which "club" was this from? Bulldogs or the one on the side street next to the WellsFargo ATM?
Alex K December 22, 2013 at 11:37 AM
What club/bar were these people coming from?!
Alan December 22, 2013 at 11:41 AM
Does it matter??? They are just a pack of marauding animals and should be treated as such!!!
MDA December 22, 2013 at 11:50 AM
Oh please STOP with the racist comments. You sound ignorant. This happened right outside of Aurum in between Metropolis and Wells Fargo. This isn't a racist issue. The fact is that the (mostly white) crowds at Blake's are just as rowdy. The real issue is that this kind of behavior is allowed to continue. Yes, the police respond quickly but they should be proactive, not reactive. They should be patrolling known problem areas so these kinds of things don't happen. There are literally hundreds of people that live in this area. Anyone could have been hit with that bullet. Does someone need to die before something is finally done?
MDA December 22, 2013 at 11:58 AM
They were coming out of Aurum Lounge which is in the Metropolis building on 8th street. I have also called the police several times over the last year. When the club lets out at 3am there are drunk people screaming, cars blasting music and honking their horns. Generally a nightmare when you are trying to sleep. The worst night is Wednesday - someone told me that's Ladies Night at Aurum. There are lots of drunk ladies stumbling down the block at 3am on Wednesdays.
Alan December 22, 2013 at 12:04 PM
Oh, stop it, MDA...I was wondering when a bleeding heart liberal like u would respond...the facts are the facts...FACE THEM!!!
Marc Acampora December 22, 2013 at 12:05 PM
And now, thank you MDA, a legitimate conversation about young black thugs terrorizing our neighborhood, will be sidetracked into a mindless debate about who is and who is not racist. Yes, the Blake's crowd can be rowdy. I've also heard noise from Pint and Plate, The Vortex, and Hudson Grill. But, somehow, those crowds never seem to resort to gun battles in the street. It's not bars, it's not alcohol, it's the ghetto culture.
M December 22, 2013 at 12:05 PM
MDA, really? The people shooting up midtown are not gay white guys from Blakes. When have you ever heard of gunfire associated with a tenth street gay bar? You are obviously ill-informed or delusionional from political correctness. I suppose you are going to try to tell us that the gunfight on Parkway Drive this past week did not involve a similar thug element? These are the same type of people who caused Buckhead to become a war zone a few years ago.
Wayne Keith December 22, 2013 at 12:45 PM
You people are ridiculous!
Chris R December 22, 2013 at 02:50 PM
There are similar issues at the club at Peachtree Pl and Spring. They block the entire road almost every weekend, park on the sidewalks, and play music outdoors so loud it is heard inside condos blocks away, all of these with no special event permit. You can call the cops all you want on the clubs, but whatever paid off cop is working detail won't enforce any laws and just sits somewhere playing cell phone games collecting the pay off. City council does nothing as they enjoy the taxes. These type of clubs are a detriment to the community.
Tim December 22, 2013 at 09:05 PM
Sorry, MDA. The only shootings around Blake's are those perpetrated by 20 to 30 something African American males mugging unsuspecting pedestrians on the surrounding streets. Until people can acknowledge this is largely a problem with poor, African American males, a solution cannot be found.
tj December 23, 2013 at 07:23 AM
If a club is an ongoing problem
Jill December 23, 2013 at 08:56 AM
The "club" that they are referring to is Aurum. I don't know why they don't call them out. It's Aurum, every weekend. I was out walking my dog late on said night. Scary.
clancey December 23, 2013 at 06:41 PM
The official APD statement is now out....yet no word on who fired the gun?
jerry gardner February 05, 2014 at 08:14 PM
Disgusting video. It looks likes Buckhead 15 years ago. Good luck, folks; you're in for a long, tough fight.
