National Night Out set for Aug. 7

Midtown Neighborhood, Atlantic Station among the communities hosting events to help promote community safety, block by block.

The Midtown Neighborhood, Atlantic Station and communities across the nation will once again gather on Tuesday, August 7, for the 29th Annual National Night Out event.

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnership and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. In recent years, NNO has grown to join more than 35 million people together in more than 13,000 neighborhoods across the country.

This year’s City of Atlanta theme, "The More We Get Together, The Safer We’ll Be," promotes keeping communities safe, block by block.

The Midtown Neighbors’ Association will be holding its event from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Myrtle Street between 5th and 6th streets. The MNA encourages families (dogs, too!) to come welcome members of the Atlanta Police Department, Midtown Ponce Security Alliance, Midtown Blue, Atlanta Fire Rescue, elected officials and neighbors in an effort to make Midtown a safer place.

Come learn about MNA Safety Programs and hear from the experts on how you can be safer in your everyday life. Immediately after, another “Shining Light” safety walk will take place, so bring your flashlights and walk the neighborhood in an act of solidarity in the fight against neighborhood crime.

Food can be purchased at the event from Yoli's Food Truck, while beverages will be provided courtesy of Midtown neighbor, Greg Moran, and his company, Activate Drinks.

The Piedmont Park Conservancy is providing tents, tables and chairs and will be onhand to share upcoming events at PPC. The MNA promises a few other surprises, too. If you have any questions, please contact Safety@midtownatlanta.org.

Atlantic Station is also hosting a National Night Out event on Aug. 7. Even if you're not a resident of the 30363 zip code, come to Central Park at Atlantic Station to join in and get to know the first responders with the Atlanta Fire Department and Atlanta Police Department.

There will be family fun, activities, and refreshments along with a chance to get to know "Atlanta's Finest." See here for more information.
