Midtown Neighborhood Rallies for Safety Awareness

Safety leaders organize flashlight walk, special meeting in light of recent crimes.

Midtown safety leaders are hoping to bring awareness to recent crimes around the neighborhood.

In the last 24 hours, there have been three crimes around the Midtown neighborhood, according to the Midtown Ponce Security Alliance.

"It's not good," said Peggy Denby, president of the alliance. "Stay off the streets when it's dark."

To help make neighbors aware of the issues, the alliance has organized two upcoming events:

  • Saturday night, Oct. 22, there will be a flashlight walk starting at 10 p.m. The goal is to bring awareness to safety issues. Neighbors interested in participating are asked to meet at 9th Street and Argonne Avenue.
  • Monday night, Oct. 24, Zone 5 Commander Major Chris Leighty will discuss the latest trends in street robberies and the efforts the Atlanta Police Department is taking to reduce crime. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at .
