News Nearby: DUI Driver Crashes Into Walgreens Pharmacy then Flees to Bar

Don't you think he probably had too much to drink already?

Around 3:30 a.m. on Friday morning, an allegedly drink driver careened down Cheshire Bridge Road losing control of his car and jumping a curb and into the front glass of the Walgreens Community Pharmacy near the intersection of Piedmont Avenue and Cheshire Bridge.

According to WSB, the driver was in a maroon 2012 Chrysler 200 when he jumped the curb and crashed, "barely missing a DUI school adjacent to the pharmacy."

The responding APD officer wrote in his report, "I observed a maroon 2012 Chrysler 200 had ran completely into the business. Myself and 1211(Officer Mulkey) approached the vehicle, but there was no driver inside."

The officers were approached by the 911 caller and witness who told the officers that the driver fled to the bar directly beside the crash site.  APD and a Georgia State Patrol officer entered the bar to find the suspect casually having a beer at the bar.

"When we went inside of the Anchor Bar the driver was sitting at the bar drinking a beer. We then escorted the driver outside after he paid for his tab," said one of the APD officers.

The driver of the vehicle told the officers, that he was simply, "attempting to make a left turn when he lost control of his vehicle."  The witness said that, "he was at intersection, located at 1700 Piedmont Rd, when he observed the suspects vehicle going at an excessive speed down Cheshire Bridge Rd. He then saw the vehicle crash into the Walgreens."

The impaired driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol by Georgia State Patrol.
