Off-Duty APD Officer Carjacked on North Avenue

Suspect approached parked vehicle at the intersection of North and Argonne avenues, pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded his phone and for him to exit the car.

An off-duty Atlanta police officer was carjacked at gunpoint around 3 a.m. Sunday while stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of North and Argonne avenues near Midtown.

According to Atlanta Police Officer John Chafee, the off-duty officer was traveling west on North when he came to a stop at a traffic light. A man then approached his vehicle, pointed a handgun at him and demanded his phone and for him to exit the car.

After the suspect left in the vehicle, the off-duty officer walked a block north to 296 Ponce de Leon Avenue and called police.

The off-duty officer had a handgun in the vehicle. Officers later located the vehicle in the area of Freemont and Adelle streets south of Lakewood Avenue and recovered the handgun along with the vehicle.

The suspect has not been located and the investigation continues.
