Police Say Gun Used in Grady High Shooting was Stolen

Morgan Tukes, 17, could face more charges related to possession of the pink-colored .380-caliber handgun.

Atlanta Police investigators say that the gun a 17-year-old student had in her possession when she shot herself in the leg outside Grady High School was stolen, several news outlets are reporting.

Morgan Tukes is already charged with felony possession of a pistol by a minor, carrying a weapon within a school safety zone, reckless conduct, disruption of a public school in the Feb. 27 incident. Her arrest in the accidental shooting also led to her being charged in a previously unsolved hit and run accident from October.

WSB and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution report that she may face more charges due to the status of the gun.

WSB said Atlanta Police detectives are also looking into whether a shooting on Boulevard a few days before the Grady incident was related to Tukes taking the gun to school.

According to these reports there is the possibility of gang activity being at the root of the accidental shooting, and police are investigating that theory.
