Police Thank Seniors with Botanical Garden Tour

Local seniors tour Atlanta Botanical Garden with the Atlanta Police Department.

The Atlanta Police Department Thursday night escorted seniors through the  as a "thank you" for participating in the crime-fighting initiative "positive loitering."

“We can’t effectively fight crime without the help of the community,” Lt. Brent Schierbaum, commander of the Community Liaison Unit, said in a release. “This is our small way of thanking those residents, and allowing us to enjoy a peaceful afternoon in the garden with people who care about their community.”

The positive loitering campaign encourages law-abiding citizens to “loiter” in their neighborhoods – along with police – to let criminals know they are being watched, according to APD. The goal is not to confront lawbreakers, but to work together towards fun, friendly and safe communities.
