Police to Discuss Redrawing of Patrol Zones
The Atlanta Police Department has scheduled meetings to discuss the redrawing of its six patrol zones.
The Atlanta Police Department will hold community meetings to discuss the redrawing of its six patrol zones.
Police officials are looking to redraw the boundaries of those zones to ensure the fastest response times and to maximize police resources.
There will continue to be six patrol zones. Twelve additional “beats” will be added within those zones. A beat is a geographic area to which one patrolling officer is assigned per shift. There currently are 66 beats in the city of Atlanta.

Community meetings will be held in March to discuss the changes.
“It’s important for us to communicate our intentions to the public,” Police Chief George Turner said in a press release. “I’m hoping that citizens will gain a greater understanding of what we’re trying to accomplish and see the benefits that will result in a safer city for all of us.”
