Rain Doesn't Wash Away 'National Night Out' Fun in Midtown

"America's Night Out Against Crime," is a grassroots effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, and neighborhood camaraderie.

A persistent drizzle of rain didn’t damper the fun at a pair of National Night Out events in Midtown Atlanta on Tuesday night.

“America’s Night Out Against Crime,” is a grassroots effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, and neighborhood camaraderie. Prevention programs include neighborhood watch groups, law enforcement agencies, state and regional crime prevention associations, businesses, civic groups, and individuals devoted to safer communities.

In the Midtown Neighborhood, a block party was held for a couple of hours on 6th Street that included Atlanta-based safety personnel mingling with neighbors. Kids played in a bounce house before a large group participated in a Shining Light Walk with flashlights in an effort to shine the light on safety.

Atlantic Station was the place to be to meet representatives from several agencies including the Atlanta Police Department and its Bomb Squad, the Atlanta Fire Department, the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department. The agencies had special emergency vehicles on display while mounted police detail was present, too.

Event sponsor Target, and Atlantic Station’s own safety and security officers, were cooking and serving up free hotdogs for all attendees as despite a little rain, the event looked to be informative and fun for all ages.
