Road Rage: Atlanta Police Say Driver Ran Down Cyclist

After a verbal confrontation, the alleged hit-and-run driver dragged the victim 50 feet according to witnesses of the Morningside neighborhood incident.

Update: Atlanta police say Monday's incident is not a hit-and run case, and is rather an aggravated assault case.

Atlanta police are looking for the driver of a red SUV-type vehicle who allegedly chased after a 50-year-old cyclist and struck him before fleeing early Monday evening in the Morningside neighborhood of Atlanta.

The victim, who reportedly was dragged 50 feet not long after engaging in a verbal altercation with the driver, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital after suffering serious head trauma injuries.

According to the police narrative, witnesses said the victim was riding his bicycle on Montgomery Ferry Road when he was almost struck by the red vehicle turning from Flagler Avenue onto Montgomery Ferry. The victim then approached the driver and a verbal dispute followed. The victim then left the scene, bicycling quickly down Flagler with the SUV-type vehicle following at a high rate of speed.

No witnesses observed the actual impact, but several moments later they found the victim laying under a silver SUV parked along the curb. Witnesses told investigators the red SUV-type vehicle sped away, taking a right onto Rock Springs Road towards Piedmont Avenue. Several witnesses described the driver of the vehicle as a black male.
