Son of Record Producer Killed in Accident at Piedmont Driving Club

Philip Walden Jr. died Tuesday night in an accident at the club's parking deck.

The son of a well-known record producer was killed Tuesday night in a one-car accident at the Piedmont Driving Club in Midtown.

Philip Walden Jr. -- son of the late Capricorn Records co-founder Phil Walden, who managed music greats including Otis Redding, Al Green, Allman Brothers Band and Widespread Panic -- died June 7 when he was pinned between his truck door and a concrete pillar in the parking deck of the driving club on Piedmont Avenue.

Police found Walden unresponsive when they arrived to the club at 8:25 p.m. Tuesday night, according to Officer Kim Jones with the Atlanta Police Department.

"It appeared the victim placed the vehicle in reverse, and then noticed his sunglasses had fallen outside of his truck," Jones said in an email. She said Walden opened the driver's door and "attempted to grab his sunglasses from the ground while keeping his foot on the brake.

"At some point the vehicle rolled back, possibly from his foot coming off the brake, pinning him against the pillar," she said.

A woman found Walden in the parking deck and called club members for help. Those people were able to move the vehicle and free Walden. They began first aid until paramedics arrived, Jones said.

Walden was transported to Atlanta Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
