Suspect sought in taxi driver armed robbery

Police seeking suspect who was picked up in Midtown before robbing a cab driver.

The Atlanta Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a suspect involved in an armed robbery of a taxi cab driver on Monday, Dec. 31, 2012.

According to the police, shortly after midnight, the man in question flagged down a Checker Cab outside the Georgian Terrace located at 659 Peachtree Street in Midtown. The man then asked to be taken to Morehouse College.

Upon passing the Atlanta Department of Corrections located at 254 Peachtree Street, the suspect brandished a weapon and ordered the driver to continue to the intersection of Lee Street and Tucker Avenue where he robbed the driver of cash before exiting the vehicle.

The suspect is described as a black male, standing approximately 5-foot-10, with an average build.

Anyone with any information leading to the identity of this suspect is asked to please contact Investigator PJ Roberson at 404 441-0707

black male committing crime in midtown, how unique

Too bad the cabbie wasn't armed...He could have at least put a bullet in the worthless Thugz backside after he exited the cab!!!

I'm suprised the taxi picked up this thug. I had a conversation with a taxi cab driver who said he would not pick up a black guy unless he was wearing a suit. And this driver was black.

I find the racist comments to this post just as disconcerting as the crime.

If blacks would stop committing crimes, you wouldn't have the racists comments.

Marc- you haven't moved from Midtown yet?

No one was surprised to see that the suspect in an armed robbery was black. Is that racist or just the reality of what we all have come to know as the way things are in Atlanta?

Morehouse offers Armed Robbery in the curriculum? That's a little weird.

However, not nearly as unique as this: 31-year-old Mathew Todd Corley (white male) was arrested on charges of Battery, Attempted Robbery, and Criminal Damage. Our research shows extensive arrest and criminal history for assault. Location Midtown For every black male there is another non black male committing the same or even more heinous crime. (See Sandy Hook, Columbine, Virginia Tech Massacre)

I couldn't agree with you more HG. However, I am hopeful that the climate will change soon. Anyone with an iota of since should know that violence and crime does not know color. As a 6 year resident of Midtown I am appalled by the amount of racist comments represented on Patch posts in general.
J.Carter January 14, 2013 at 07:58 AM
That is not the reality as I see it and for an example of non blacks committing similar crimes (violent) look no further than the article posted prior to this one. Here is an excerpt: 31-year-old Mathew Todd Corley (white male) was arrested on charges of Battery, Attempted Robbery, and Criminal Damage. Our research shows extensive arrest and criminal history for assault. Location Midtown So, your view of crime in the city of Atlanta is certainly flawed and can indeed be classified as racist depending upon the reader.

Blacks can also be prejudice against other blacks. It is a common phenomenon among races in general unfortunately. This derogatory thinking has birthed terms like ghetto and white trash.
