Suspects in Midtown Robbery Killed in NW Atlanta Crash

The two men allegedly robbed a man and woman at gunpoint in the residential area around Midtown's Atlantic Station a short time prior to the accident.

Atlanta police say two suspected robbers from an armed Atlantic Station-area pedestrian crime on Monday morning, died a short time later in a single-vehicle accident in northwest Atlanta.

According to Sgt. Greg Lyon, the accident occurred on Joseph Lowery Boulevard near Wheeler Street. That’s where the suspects’ Jeep Patriot was traveling at a high rate of speed before striking a fire hydrant and metal pole before going up an embankment in what was a violent crash.

Two males died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, which occurred around 7 a.m.

Lyon said the two men allegedly robbed a man and woman at gunpoint in the residential area around Midtown's Atlantic Station a short time prior to the accident. The victims apparently followed the suspects' vehicle after the crime, but no police were involved in the pursuit.

The victims were at the scene of the accident, and facts were still being gathered according to Lyon. Patch will update as information becomes available.
