Tech student robbed at gunpoint in Home Park

Witness unsuccessfully gives pursuit following early Monday morning incident

A Georgia Tech student was robbed at gunpoint of his iPhone and wallet outside his Home Park neighborhood residence early Monday morning.

According to Atlanta Police spokesman John Chafee, a male student reported that around 12:30 a.m. he was checking the mail outside of his home located on McMillan Street. That's when an unknown suspect approached from behind, displayed a handgun and demanded the student's belongings.

The suspect was described as a black male in his 20s and standing approximately 6 feet tall. He was last seen wearing a black fleece jacket with a red stripe on the sleeve and a black hat.

Another neighborhood resident who resides on nearby Ethel Street, told police that he spotted the suspect walking the Home Park streets prior to the robbery.

The witness indicated that from his back porch, he witnessed the crime, and then immediately began chasing after the suspect, who he unsuccessfully attempted to tackle at the intersection of Ethel and McMillan. The witness continued to follow the suspect onto Curran Street until the suspect stopped, pointed the gun at the witness, prompting him to end his pursuit.

The suspect was last seen headed west on foot on Tenth Street towards Northside Drive. There were no injuries reported.

Anyone with any information regarding this and other criminal incidents are asked to contact Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS (8477).
