Two Monday Morning Shootings Near Central Park and North Avenue

Luckily no life threatening injuries were reported from the two separate incidents.

The Atlanta Police Department has confirmed that there were two shootings early Monday morning along Parkway Drive, near North Avenue.

According to Public Affairs Officer Kim Jones, "Ofc. Jean-Pierre responded to a person shot at Parkway Drive and Linden Avenue," just before midnight to find the victim shot in the left arm.  Jones says that the victim, "advised that an unknown black male wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans was following him while he was walking from East Ave toward Parkway Drive.  He began to run in an attempt to avoid the male, and the male began to shoot at him."

After being struck in the arm, the victim was able to run inside the Stratford Inn while the suspect fled the scene.

Roughly an hour later, Ofc. Jean-Pierre again responded to a person shot call, this time at 617 Parkway Drive.  Kim Jones told Cascade Patch that the victim in this case, "was standing by the fence in front of his building when a male pulled up in a white Nissan Versa and started shooting.  The male was traveling south on Parkway Drive toward North Avenue when he stopped at the intersection."

According to the police report, the victim states, "that he did not know the male and the male was initially shooting in the air and then he pointed the weapon in his direction and continued to fire several shots."  The shooter was described by the victim as, "a light skinned black male with a stocky build, wearing a white long sleeve shirt or jacket and a dark baseball cap."

The bullet struck the man in the shoulder.  Neither of the injuries sustained from the shooting were life-threatening.

These 2 shootings mark the end of a dangerous weekend in the North Avenue area. If you recall an off-duty police officer was carjacked at gunpoint early Saturday morning along North Avenue.
