Woman victim of random shooting on I-75

Los Angeles woman, who had just arrived in Atlanta for her son’s baseball tournament, is in stable condition after taking gunfire to the face while driving near Northside Drive.

The Atlanta Police say a California woman visiting the metro area for her son’s baseball tournament was the victim of a random shooting while driving along I-75 near Northside Drive early Friday morning.

According to APD spokesman John Chafee, Kimberly Taylor and her husband flew in from Los Angeles around midnight to see their 17-year-old son’s games in Cobb County. Having renting a vehicle, the couple was driving north along the interstate when “an unidentified black male leaned out of the passenger side window of a vehicle that was to the left and in front of them and fired several rounds from a handgun into their car.”

The bullets entered through the windshield and struck Taylor in the face. She was able to maintain control of the vehicle and pull over to the side of the road, and her husband then took her to Piedmont Hospital around 2:30 a.m.

On Saturday morning she was listed in stable condition and her injuries do not appear to be life threatening. APD questioned the Taylors about a possible road rage incident and both denied that any such incident occurred before the shooting.

The Taylors also said they didn’t know of any reason to believe anyone had previous intentions to harm them. Based on their story, the incident appears to be a random act of violence according to the police.
