Alex Wan: Sunday PARKatlanta Enforcement ‘Off the Table’

City Councilman Alex Wan told residents this week proposed legislation to extend parking enforcement to include Sunday is off the table.

There is still discussion to extend the enforcement hours from 10 p.m. to midnight and to charge an overnight parking fee of $2 in some areas.

“I think there’s going to be a big fight on our hands,” Wan said.

residents last week he would rather end the contract than continue on with this “bad deal.”

To get out of the contract, the city would need to pay PARKAtlanta about $8 million for each year left on the contract, according to Wan. The contract would expire in about two-and-a-half years.

“It’s just a really sticky situation,” Wan told residents earlier this week.

Most of District 6 — Wan’s district — is zoned entertainment, which would be hit with extended enforcement hours and the overnight parking fee.

“I’d rather find the money somewhere else in the budget than add back restrictions that just don’t make sense,” Wan said.
