Candidate Forum Set for Tuesday

Hear from candidates battling to represent Midtown, Virginia-Highland, Morningside and Poncey-Highland

For years, a single state legislator has represented the Virginia-Highland neighborhood as a whole.

But legislators redrew district boundaries statewide last year, and the new maps split Virginia-Highland down the center at Virginia Avenue.

District 57 and District 58, which are also basically split by Piedmont Avenue in Midtown, will now represent the neighborhoods in the state House of Representatives.

On Tuesday night, July 24, hear from the Democrats vying for the District 57 and 58 seats at a candidate forum hosted by the Virginia-Highland Civic Association.

In District 57, incumbents in what is expected to be a heated race. There is no Republican opposition.

In Midtown, the redrawn district lines include Piedmont Park and stretch south from 14th Street, including many of the condominiums in the heart of Midtown between Piedmont and West Peachtree St. See the redrawn lines here.

Incumbents and are running for the District 58 seat, which includes the Midtown Neighborhood east of Piedmont and south of 10th St. The redrawn lines are here. The winner of the July 31 primary in the general election.

All five candidates are expected to attend the forum.
