UPDATE: Clermont Hotel Rezoning Approved by Atlanta City Council on Monday

The Clermont Hotel may soon finally get a facelift.

UPDATE: According to a press release from the Atlanta City Council Communications department, "the City Council on Monday approved the rezoning of the property located at 789 Ponce De Leon Avenue and 672 AND 676 Bonaventure Avenue, N.E., from the C-1 (Community Business) District and the R-5 (Two-Family Residential) District to the MRC-2-C (Mixed Residential Commercial-Conditional) District. (Legislative Reference No. 13-O-1008)"

The hotel is owned by Clermont Hotel Partners LLC, a partnership whose principals include Philip Welker and Ethan Orley, who purchased the property on Ponce de Leon Avenue earlier this year.

The City Council also granted a special use permit for the property allowing for a hotel to open at the location. (Legislative Reference No. 13-O-1013)

Atlanta - (08/18/13) According to an email from the Atlanta City Council communications office, the new owners of the Clermont Hotel are looking to rezone the property so that they can redevelop the property.

"Home to the world famous Clermont Lounge, the Clermont Hotel property is poised to be rezoned from the C-1 (Community Business) District and the R-5 (Two-Family Residential District) to the MRC-2 (Mixed Residential Commercial) District. The new owner and plans to redevelop the property into a boutique hotel," according to Dexter Chambers.

The Atlanta City Council is set to look at the proposed legislation Monday.  The supporting documents are attached to this article.
