UPDATED: Gay Rights Groups to Protest Midtown Law Firm

A press conference is set for Tuesday near King & Spalding.

UPDATE: King & Spalding announced Monday that it will refuse to represent the House of Representatives in defending the Defense of Marriage Act, according to Politico.com.

Two leading gay rights groups plan to protest a Midtown-based law firm's involvement in defending the Defense of Marriage Act.

Georgia Equality and the Human Rights Campaign plan to hold a press conference Tuesday to speak out against the King & Spalding law firm, the Georgia Voice reports.

The press conference is set for 11 a.m. on April 26 at the small park located at 15th and Peachtree streets -- just a block from King & Spalding's headquarters at 1180 Peachtree Street. 

The Republican leadership of the U.S. House of Representatives recently retained Paul Clement, a partner at King & Spalding, according to a report from Project Q Atlanta. Clement will defend the Defense of Marriage Act, a law that defines marriage as the union of a man and woman.
