Last Chance: Deadline for APS Comments

A pair of Midtown Neighbors' Association meetings are also on the calendar this week

Update - March 26, 3:45 p.m.:

Atlanta Public Schools will now receive comments through Friday on Superintendent Erroll B. Davis Jr.'s school redistricting plan, APS spokesman Keith Bromery said. The school system previously set Monday as the deadline. After considering public comments, Davis is to post a revised plan for schools this weekend.

Hello on a Monday! Today we introduce a new feature at Midtown Patch called Last Chance, a weekly guide to approaching deadlines, show closings, registrations and other important dates. Here’s a sampling of a few things for you to be aware of this week.

APS Deadline

Monday is the deadline to send comments to APS Superintendent Erroll B. Davis Jr.'s office about his preliminary proposal for schools. Comments can be sent to apsredistricting@atlantapublicschools.us.

After considering public comments, Davis plans to post a revised proposal on the APS website on Friday, March 30. He will then accept responses to his new plan, with a final recommendation to be made to the Atlanta School Board on April 9. The board is to make a final decision April 10 on district changes.

MNA Meetings

The Midtown Neighbors' Association has a pair of open meetings this week beginning with Tuesday’s monthly License & Permit Committee meeting at Babs restaurant located at 814 Juniper Street. The meeting will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Event applications for the the Atlanta Food & Wine Festival (May 11-13) and the Tin Lizzy's Cinco de Mayo Festival (May 5) will be discussed and voted on. Liquor license applications from OrganiX Food Lounge, LLC (former Entice-A location on Ponce de Leon Ave.) and J.R. Crickets (in Colony Square) will also be on the agenda.

On Thursday, the monthly Board of Directors meeting will be held at from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The agenda will not be finalized until Tuesday, and any Midtown resident may request to bring business before the board by submitting that request to: pres@midtownatlanta.org.

Georgia Legislature Winding Down

The Georgia General Assembly has three days left in its 2012 session. Here is a report from WXIA, Channel 11, on controversial legislation remaining. Lawmakers Monday headed toward the finish line by approving a $19. 3 million spending plan, The AJC reported.

Atlanta Film Festival All Week

The Atlanta Film Festival opened last Friday at the and will continue this week through Sunday, April 1. On Sunday, an encore presentation of “AKA Blondie” will be screened at the Midtown theatre following its sold out and well-received premier Sunday evening at the Plaza Theatre.

A short documentary, “The King of Pops,’’ will also be screened. See here for more festival and ticket information.
