Local politicians to attend Midtown 'Super Saturday' voter education event

Saturday's free event will provide community members at different levels of political engagement an opportunity to present questions to federal and state legislature candidates about the most important issues facing communities.

Looking to enhance your knowledge of the metro Atlanta civic and political landscape? Join the Urban League of Greater Atlanta Young Professionals (ULGA-YP) to get politically savvy during the fifth annual 'Super Saturday' voter education event on Saturday, July 21.

The free event, being held from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at , is an integral part of the ULGA-YP mission to facilitate civic empowerment and political engagement. 'Super Saturday' will be moderated by WXIA-TV 11Alive's DeMarco Morgan.

During this heated primary election season, 'Super Saturday' will provide community members at different levels of political engagement an opportunity to present questions to federal and state legislature candidates about the most important issues facing our communities. Super Saturday will also create the opportunity for community members to listen to the candidate’s platforms.

Pat Gardner; Michael Johnson, Democratic primary challenger to Congressman Lewis; Howard Stopeck, Republican challenger to Congressman Lewis; Robert Montigel, Democratic challenger to Congressman Tom Price; Jeff Kazanow, Democratic Challenger to Congressman Price; Kofi Wakhisi, Atlanta Regional Commission; Mark Woodall, Georgia Sierra Club; Che Watkins, Citizens for Transportation Mobility / Untie Atlanta

Attendees can expect to learn more about local issues, including the impact of the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (T-SPLOST) on Georgia.

The event will also feature two workshops: “Georgia Politics 101” is an interactive presentation of the basics in politics, and “What to Know Before Running for Office” will provide aspiring political leaders the vital first steps to running for office.

The Urban League of Greater Atlanta Young Professionals consists of more than 200 young professionals between the ages of 21-40 across metro Atlanta dedicated to serving their local communities through social and community activism.
