Midtown Councilmen Support Vote on Sunday Alcohol Sales

Atlanta City Councilmen Kwanza Hall and Alex Wan sponsor legislation to allow vote.

Atlanta residents may get the chance to weigh in on Sunday alcohol sales this November.

A plan currently under consideration by the Atlanta City Council, the proposed Ordinance No. 11-O-1169, would let voters decide if the city should allow retail sales of beer wine and liquor.

The two councilmen who represent Midtown -- District 2's Kwanza Hall and District 6's Alex Wan -- sponsored the ordinance, along with five other members.

If the City Council approves the plan, the Sunday alcohol sales referendum question willl be placed on the Nov. 8, 2011 City of Atlanta Special Election ballot. That ballot also would include the referendum to continue the extension of the the penny sales tax by Atlanta Public Schools and to.

Voters are encouraged to voice their opinions on the Sunday retail alcohol sales initiative at the the City Council's next meeting, scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sept. 6.
