Midtown Patch Election Guide

The candidates, incumbents and issues that will be affecting Midtown, Ansley Park, Georgia Tech, Home Park, West Midtown and surrounding neighborhoods

Tuesday's Election Day is quickly approaching. Here's what you need to know locally:

On Election Day, the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Don't know where to vote in Midtown? Find your poll location and ballot summary here.

The presidential election features the Democratic incumbent, President Barack Obama, against the GOP nominee, Gov. Mitt Romney. Gov. Gary Johnson of the Libertarian Party is the only other candidate currently on the Georgia ballot.

Republican Howard Stopeck will face Democratic incumbent U.S. Rep. John Lewis for the District 5 U.S. Congressional seat.

In the Georgia House District 58 race, Democratic incumbent Simone Bell will face Republican Earl Cooper. House District 58 stretches from the Virginia Highlands all the way to Fort McPherson and includes most of the Midtown Neighborhood south of 10th Street and east of Piedmont Avenue.

Voters will also decide if the state can override local school boards' decisions on rejection of charter schools.

The ballot will also allow voters to indicate support or opposition for stopping unlimited gifts from lobbyists to state legislators.

Georgians will also be able to vote on two tax-related issues: adoption of an income tax credit for home energy costs and a reduction of sales taxes on products made in Georgia to help small businesses.

On Election Day the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
