Romney Coming For Midtown Fundraiser

Republican presidential hopeful scheduled to be at the W Hotel Midtown on Wednesday night.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney skipped Midtown in his previous visit to Atlanta, but he won’t this week.

According to campaign officials, the former Massachusetts governor will be at a Wednesday evening fundraiser at the .

In June, Romney made pit stops in Smyrna (to talk small business) and Buckhead (fundraiser) following campaign appearances in Florida. The Sunshine State is one of the three states out of five that Romney has won during the Republican primaries or caucuses following Saturday’s convincing win in the Nevada caucuses.

The GOP race now shifts this week to Colorado, Minnesota, Missouri (Tuesday), and Maine (Saturday). Super Tuesday is one month from today when voters from 10 states, including Georgia, head to the polls. Today is the final day for Fulton County residents to register to vote in the March 6 General Primary Election.

Of the 10 states, Georgia has the most delegates up for grabs at 76. Newt Gingrich’s campaign expects to bring in volunteers from other states to help the local paid staffers as the primary approaches.

Still, after Romney dominated Gingrich in Nevada in key groups: the very conservative (46 percent to 25 percent), Evangelicals (43 percent to 28 percent) and Tea Party supporters (47 percent to 25 percent), some political observers are beginning to suggest that it is merely a formality that Romney will face President Barack Obama in November.
