DeKalb County says Forest Heights Apartments, located on Columbia Drive just outside the Decatur and Avondale Estates city limits, will be demolished in January.

There will be 70 one-bedroom units and 10 two-beroom units.

Brennan said this is one of the three housing developments in DeKalb recently approved by the Ga. Dept of Community Affairs for 9 percent tax credits. DeKalb County is a stakeholder

The developer is Columbia Residential.

Exactly Dorothy. I think we all should start calling DeKalb County or this could turn out to be a disaster.

Ralph thank you for this story. I ride by those boarded up apts. often and have wondered what was going to happen to them. If you have anymore information please let us know how we can stay on top of this.

The developer is not new to senior housing - their website is at http://www.columbiares.com They have at least ten other senior housing communities in the Atlanta area so DeKalb County should be able to look into their track record easily enough. It seems like this is an independent-living type of setup.

Very impressive. I hope they will consider making these brick rather than the style in the artist's sketch. It would be more in keeping with the neighborhood.
