Do You Want the Braves to Remain at Turner Field?

Petition started by Atlanta woman urges Braves' ownership to keep the team at Turner Field.

Lindsay Cronk of Atlanta doesn’t want the Braves to leave for Cobb County and has started a petition at Change.org to gather support.

The petition, which is to be delivered to Braves Chairman and CEO Terry McGuirk and Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing Derek Schiller, had garnered more than 1,500 signatures by early Tuesday afternoon.

The petition closes by stating, “Signing this petition will send a message to Braves leadership, and we may still be able to undo this disastrous plan which will have far reaching consequences for the Atlanta metro area.”

Under her post on Tuesday, Cronk wrote, “Remember to contact Tim Lee, tlee@cobbcounty.org - 770-528-3305. Ask him where the $$$ are coming from for this deal. If Cobb County's deal falls through, the Braves will stay at Turner Field.”

What do you think, do you want the Braves to remain at Turner Field and not leave for Cobb after their lease agreement with the stadium expires following the 2016 season?

The petition reads as follows:

Stadiums are not disposable. John Schuerholz, Mike Plant and Derek Schiller, Braves executives, recently announced their plan to move the Braves to Cobb County in 2017. The plan is to build a new stadium using Cobb County tax dollars. Abandoning Turner Field (which is owned by the City of Atlanta) represents the worst kind of greed and disregard for Atlanta's already sizable investment in the franchise. It also shows disrespect for Braves fans in Cobb County who are now asked to foot a substantial bill for a wholly unnecessary new ball park.

Will we as fans stand by and allow the Braves organization to make what can be  described, at best, as an expensive mistake? As hard working taxpayers, are we willing to watch as our money gets thrown at an unnecessary and costly capital project?

Turner Field, which will be only 20 years old at the time of the move, is in excellent condition and a central location to the City of Atlanta. Abandoning the Ted is a willfully wrong-headed decision that will result in an eyesore for the city as well as insult and injury to all Atlanta area fans.

Join me in telling Braves ownership that this move is unacceptable. Keep the Braves at Turner field and do right by Atlanta's fans. Signing this petition will send a message to Braves leadership, and we may still be able to undo this disastrous plan which will have far reaching consequences for the Atlanta metro area.
