Longtime Midtown area business heading across town

Oriental Designer Rugs is moving to the westside's home décor and furnishings district after a nearly two-decade run in the Amsterdam Walk district.

An Amsterdam Walk business for almost two decades is in its final weeks at its current locale before relocating to Atlanta’s westside.

Oriental Designer Rugs has been in business for 29 years, the last 19 at 560-A Amsterdam Avenue. But due in part to its expanding rug collection, come February 1, its new showroom will be located at 1250-B Menlo Drive off Huff Road near other designer/decorator home furnishing stores.

The new location will be 150 percent larger for the direct importer-wholesaler-retailer that carries rugs from around the world, including machine-loomed rugs made in USA as well as other countries.

A store representative told Patch Thursday that merchandise is already being moved across town, but in the meantime, the current showroom, located in the shopping and entertainment district at the corner of Monroe Drive and Amsterdam Avenue, has all its collections on sale as it makes room for large shipments to the new showroom. Savings of 50 to 85 percent are being offered on discontinued styles, floor samples, overstocks, etc.

See here for a gallery of the wide selection of rugs offered. For more information, call 404-881-8979 or email orientaldesigner@bellsouth.net.

And this is right along the Beltline. Looks like your precious intown hipster trail is driving business away instead of drawing it in.

OR-- because it is moving to a facility that is 150 % larger near other designer/decorator home furnishing stores. "Precious intown hipster trail" does get my "Bitter Troll Quot eof the year",nomination, however, but it is only early January and I am sure you will whine-out an even better one shortly.

You clearly didn't read the article. "But due in part to its expanding rug collection, come February 1, its new showroom will be located at 1250-B Menlo Drive ..." Nothing mentioned any negative affects of the Beltline. In addition, the area near Huff rd. is full of retailers who sell similar and complimentary goods.
