Midtown Green shows 'Selective Love' in doling out infrastructure upgrades

Does Wayne Mock have too much authority in deciding where money is spend sprucing up Midtown?

There is a thriving section of Midtown, teeming with thousands of pedestrians a week, that The Midtown Alliance ignores. Why? Because the so-called Midtown Plan designates this area as "Future Development," and has for the past few decades.

A commercial and entertainment area runs down Spring Street, from The Varsity to Arby's, known as NoNo West. This is the 'true' west Midtown, not the Paper Midtowns like The Northwest Marietta Corridor, Atlantic Station or Home Park. But the way Midtown Green treats this neighborhood, it might as well be Ho Chi Min City.

I notice Spring and 5th now not only has spiffy trash containers, but now containers for RECYCLED items. We have none, except the one we put in front of our business. From North Ave to the magical boundaries of Tech Square, the sidewalks are narrow and horribly tilted and cracked, with utility poles taking up most of the space where pedestrians. Some  places along Spring don't even have curbs; fun times to get splashed in the rain. Many just walk in the street, there being some areas where the sidewalk is 12" wide.

Our business property is owned by Selig Enterprises, a major member of Midtown Alliance. If Wayne Mock, (the one making arbitrary decisions on where the upgrades are spent), can not get out of his office long enough to walk the block, then perhaps he should move on to another job or retire to HarleyVille.

If the businesses in the area can not get equal treatment with safe sidewalks, perhaps we can at least get a trash receptacle on the block (They told us to 'buy one' at over $350.00 with no guarantee it would be emptied). The AT&T employees, Tech students, and thousands of patrons to the businesses in the area would appreciate a bit of love from the Alliance.

If you have tripped and stumbled while walking the public right of way in our neighborhood, we apologize. It's simply beyond our control.

Come on, Mock, throw us a bone! Why do you make us beg for basic services everyone else is getting?
