Around Town @ Atlanta Botanical Garden's Independent Visions 'Sculpture In The Garden'

How do you spend a leisurely day in Midtown Atlanta? Well head over to the Atlanta Botanical Garden's special exhibit, "Sculpture In The Garden."

Independent Visions "Sculpture In The Garden" is the current art exhibition at the here in Midtown Atlanta. The exhibition features 19 contemporary sculptures by nine internationally acclaimed artists from around the world. Each sculpture has been strategically positioned throughout the garden landscape in order to provide a vibrant impact at every turn one takes. "Lawd...there were soo many pathways and turns my head was spinning by the end of the day." Anyway, the exhibit opened this week and runs  through October 2012.

As I took my preview tour prior to the official start date (that's because I'm a proud Garden member), I was excited to see once again the Botanical Garden in partnership with the Marlborough Gallery of New York, offered up an invigorating collection of art intertwined with the centers lush garden landscape. From the whimsical "hot dog vendor" by artist Red Grooms to the monumental bronzes by artist Manolo Valdes, the sculptures are a must see when booking your "things to do while in the city" adventure. Also, while at the Botanical Garden, you will have the opportunity to see a multitude of other exciting sites (see list below).

You begin your adventure from the Hardin Visitor Center and wind the easily accessible paths to the various garden spots:  Southern Seasons Garden, Cascade Garden, Flower Bridge, Trustees Garden, Children's Garden, Perennial Garden, Japanese Garden, Great Lawn, Fuqua Conservatory & Orchid Center, Hardy Succulents, Aquatic Plant Pond, Conifer Garden, Rock Garden, Rose Garden and Woodland Gardens. "Whewww, that took my breathe away, I needed a refreshment!”

To wrap up the day with a feeling of Atlanta elegance is to take a leisurely stroll through the Levy Parterre where the incredible glass sculpture by Dale Chihuly awaits you. And...because there is soo much to see and do, plan for an entire day at the Garden. Be sure to layer on the sunscreen because it’s mainly an outdoor event. If you’re hungry, great food is also provided at both the "Cafe" as well as at "MetroFresh".
