New Year's Resolution: What NOT to Include in Your Resume

Don't include social security number, age, credit card or banking informatin, health information, marital status or photograph on your resume.

This New Year's Eve, resolve that you will remove from your resume the information that shouldn't be there. Legitimate companies will not ask for the following information on your resume or online application:

  • Social security number (except if it is a governmental entity)
  • Age
  • Credit card or banking information
  • Health
  • Marital status

Do not include on your resume any information about why you left a job (unless it is relevant that the company ceased operations or was bought out by another company).

Do not apologize for lack of experience or skills or make promises about acquiring them. But you should mention courses you are currently taking or degrees or certifications you are working toward.

Do not include a photograph as this will reveal information about your physical characteristics that could open a company to charges of discrimination.

At Robin’s Resumes® we always make sure that your resume includes everything you should include and nothing that you shouldn’t.
