Atlanta Santa Speedo Run 2012

Atlanta Santa Speedo run has another successful year!

In keeping up with the true holiday spirit and a newer tradition in Atlanta, but not so new around the country (http://www.ssrunners.org/), Hudson Grille hosted the Atlanta Santa Speedo 2012 (ASSR12) run this past Saturday 12/8. The run included 225 runners who raised $90,000 for the CURE Childhood Cancer organization (http://www.curechildhoodcancer.org/).

Each year, a local non-profit organization is chosen to be the beneficiary of money raised from runners who want to participate in a 5k jaunt around Midtown Atlanta. The runners are scantily clad in their, you guessed it... speedo's... or sometimes only their "d*** in a box!"

I had the opportunity to volunteer at the team registration table this year. While registering, two woman who happened by on their morning run came up to donate and run along side the other runners. One mentioned she is from Boston (the city to introduce the Speedo Run to the country) and has participated in Boston in years past and that "it's much warmer for a winter run in Atlanta!"

I am told that this years run and event were "flawless!" This is great to hear, since anyone who has ever tried to organize an event knows that there is always a glitch in the system. Past years experience and mishaps have lead to great problem resolution before the problems arise!

The Speedo run has proved to be a great event, raising money for charity during the giving season, and a great time to reunite with friends who I don't see often enough. It's an early afternoon run with time left over to go home, nap and get ready for Christmas parties in the evening.

I enjoyed registering teams such as "Hey Griswald, where do you think you're gonna put a tree that big?" or "A Honey Boo Boo Christmas to you" or one of my favorites "The North Pole Dancers" this year, and look forward to the creative team names next year. Please stay tuned for announcements for 2013 and check the official website (http://www.atlantasantaspeedorun.org/) for photos from this year and years past.
