Centennial Place Hosts APS Gifted Essentials for Parents of Gifted and Talented Students

Centennial Place Elementary is the location of the upcoming Gifted Essentials for Parents meeting on March 28th.


Parents of gifted and talented Atlanta Public Schools students will have the opportunity to gather amongst themselves and district educators on March 28th from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at  Centennial Place Elementary for the 'Gifted Essentials for Parents' meeting held by APS.

An additional meeting will be held in the evening at Parkside Elementary for parents' convenience, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

According to the Gifted and Talented APS website, "the Office of Gifted and Talented Education provides learning environments which foster personal and social responsibility, multi-cultural competence and technical communication skills for citizenship in the global environment of the 21st Century." Gifted services are available for all eligible students in grades kindergarten through grade 12.

Parents of gifted and talented students will be provided with information on CCGPS (Common Core Georgia Performance Standards) and the impact on gifted education.  This is also a good time for parents to inquire about summer gifted enrichment programs, and make sure to meet application deadlines.

According to Georgia Board Rule 160-4-2-.38, a gifted and talented student is defined as one who demonstrates a high degree of intellectual and/or creative ability(ies), exhibits an exceptionally high degree of motivation, and/or excels in specific academic fields, and who needs special instruction and/or special ancillary services to achieve at levels which commensurate with his or her ability(ies).
