Outer City/Inner Suburb: Exploring the physical and cultural fabric of Paris, Toulouse, and Atlanta beyond the center

The Consulate General of France in Atlanta, in cooperation with the Georgia Tech College of Architecture at Georgia Tech, the Office of International Education, and the Center for European and Transatlantic Studies, hosts this symposium focusing on the banlieues of Paris and the inner suburbs of Atlanta.  The symposium is free and open to the public.

As sites of significant immigrant and first-generation communities, these landscapes offer important insights into the cultural, social, and economic change occurring in France and the United States today. While the banlieues in Paris continue to receive fevered attention, the demographic transformations of the Atlanta metropolitan region over the last twenty years have not been given the attention they merit. The symposium places these transformations into cross-disciplinary and transatlantic perspectives. Invited participants focus on demographics, urban and economic initiatives, architecture, and cultural production to explore terrains that are simultaneously homogenous and degraded,  heterogeneous and vibrant.

For a complete schedule, go to Outer City/Inner Suburbs:
Friday:  3-7pm.
Saturday:  9am-1pm and 2-6pm.
