GA Tech Celebrates its 245th Graduation Ceremony

Approximately 2,700 undergraduate and graduate students participated in the 245th commencement of the Georgia Institute of Technology.


The gowns have been worn and the caps already thrown as Georgia Tech students and faculty celebrated its 245th Commencement during the weekend of May 4th and 5th.

Approximately 2,700 undergraduate and graduate students participated in the ceremonies which took place in McCamish Pavilion.

Thomas Fanning, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Southern Company, addressed the undergraduate morning ceremony on Saturday, May 4, while Kevin Riley, editor of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, addressed the afternoon ceremony at 3 p.m.

Ruth Simmons, former president of Brown University, was the speaker for the Ph.D. and master’s ceremony on Friday, May 3.

Ernest "Ernie" Scheller Jr., chairman emeritus of Pennsylvania-based Silberline Manufacturing Inc., and Fanning were both be awarded honorary degrees during this spring’s ceremonies.
