Georgia Tech Plans to Renovate Arts Center

The Ferst Center for the Arts is set to get improvements.

Georgia Tech on Tuesday announced plans to renovate its 20-year-old arts center.

Renovation of the is expected to include a redesigned lobby area, a permanent concessions area, new box office space and a donor event area. Other elements include a new outdoor plaza, stage lighting system and renovated bathrooms and dressing rooms, among other improvements.

Atlanta architectural firm BLDGS will design the project. The total cost and timeline of the renovation will be released at a later date, according to the institute. The renovation will be funded by private donations. Fundraising is underway.

“The Ferst Center is almost constantly in use by professional artists, campus departments, student organizations, summer camps and community groups," Ferst Center Director George Thompson said in a release.

“The renovations will provide a better audience experience and new performance spaces that are appropriate for different types of performing artists. The initial plans are to visually ‘open up’ the building to the campus and we expect all the changes to greatly expand the functionality of the building.”
