Georgia Tech Ranks 7th Among Public Institutions

Georgia Tech does well on the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings.

continues to be a top-rated institution.

In the recently released U.S. News and World Report’s 2012 list of top colleges and universities in the country, Tech ranked 7th among public institutions and 36th overall.

Several of Georgia Tech's programs also received top rankings such as Tech's undergraduate engineering program, which was ranked 5th in the nation.

Tech has ranked in the top 10 of public universities for more than a decade, according to a release.

"Georgia Tech is proud of its decade-long ranking as a top ten public university, including the largest engineering program in the nation, ranked in the top five and a national leader in the total number of engineering degrees awarded to women and to under-represented minority students," Tech President G. P. "Bud" Peterson said in an announcement Tuesday.

"We will continue in our journey toward pre-eminence in education, research and economic development, serving the state and the nation," Peterson said.

Harvard University and Princeton University tied for 1st on the national list, and Yale University, Columbia University and California Institute of Technology rounded out the top five.

Emory University was ranked 20th and University of Georgia ranked 62nd among the top universities in the United States.
