Grady Class of 2012 Readies for Graduation

A peek at some local school news to use

’s graduation is set for Thursday, May 24 at the Atlanta Civic Center. The Class of 2012 valedictorian is Julia Rapoport, and the salutatorian is Shaun Kleber.

The STAR student with highest SAT score is Benjamin Dean.

The Nominations Committee has submitted its Final Report to the Grady PTSA Executive Committee. Below is the slate of officers for the 2012-2013 school year. The report is also available in the Main Office and online here.

The election will be held on Thursday, May 17, during the General PTSA meeting at 6 p.m. in the Grady Auditorium. The nominating committee will present the above slate, at which time additional nominations may be made from the floor. Please note that only those individuals who are current members of the Grady PTSA and who have signified their consent to serve if elected shall be nominated for, or elected to, office. Join us!

Grady Local School Council elections will be held on Thursday, May 17 from 7:45 a.m to 6:30 p.m. in the Grady auditorium lobby. Each parent/guardian of a student enrolled in the school is entitled to one vote for each vacant parent/guardian member position on the council. Voting will be by secret ballot and parents/guardians must present their state or other government issued photo ID to verify eligibility.

All parents and other interested community members are invited to attend the third Biomedical Science & Engineering Academy’s Honors Program scheduled for Friday, May 18 from 8:30 to 9:45 am in the Grady Theater. Students in the academy will be recognized for academic and civic achievement and excellence. After the program, students who were recognized will enjoy light refreshments along with the parents and community members.

On the athletic front, spring football drills culminate on Wednesday, May 16 with the annual Grady Grey Knights Spring Football Game at the Eddie S. Henderson, Sr. Athletic Field at Grady Stadium.

Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. and admission is free. The concession stands will be open to provide food and refreshments.

The Grady boys soccer team finished the season with a 12-5-1 record for a second-place finish in the sub-region standings and a fourth-place showing in the region. The team scored 49 goals, had 14 against and posted 11 shutouts. Postseason honors included:

MVP - Whit Maupin; Defensive MVP - Phillip Suits; Offensive MVP - Tim Adcock; Most Improved  - Jelani Shakir; Coaches Award - Asa Eggeslton; and Golden Boot- Asa Wolf.
 
The girls squad finished with a 10-9-1 record and made it to the first round of the state playoffs. Postseason honors included: Most Improved -  Orly Hendler; MVP Defense - Lauren Harper; Golden Boot - Emily Ferris; MVP Offense - Perri Bonner; Coach's Award - Alix Youngblood; and MVP - Nally Kinanne.
