Midtown International School Informational Meeting Monday

Make plans to learn more about a new K-5 school in Midtown set for an August 2013 opening

The Midtown International School, a private K-5 set to open in August of 2013 in Midtown, will be holding an informational meeting on Monday, Sept. 10, 2012.

The 7 p.m. meeting, which will include school organizers sharing site plans/designs, fundraising opportunities, discussing curriculum and touring the future home of the new campus, will be held at Loca Luna, located at 550 Amsterdam Avenue.

Drinks and hors d'oeuvres will be provided by Loca Luna; therefore, it is essential that organizers have a headcount for this event. Please be sure to sign guest list and/or R.S.V.P. to Development@MidtownInternationalSchool.com

According to school officials, the Midtown International School will be designed for students who learn best in very small class environments, with exposure to a globally-minded curriculum and a variety of instructional strategies. Its foreign language instruction, dedicated math and science teachers, and commitment to 21st century learning will provide an exceptional foundation for its bright young learners to succeed in school and in life.

The school believes in exposure to diversity and viewpoints that transcend national, ethnic, and socio-economic boundaries. It maintains that accessibility to gifted and high-achievers programs should not be limited by socio-economic status, and is committed to providing scholarship assistance to qualifying students.

Application deadline is February 1, 2013.

Also Monday, the Atlanta Board of Education is set to me at 6 p.m. at 130 Trinity Ave. SW.

Don't forget, if you have an opinion about the Atlanta Public Schools 2013-2014 school calendar, make it known in a new calendar survey here.

The purpose of the survey is to collect public input to inform the development of the 2013-14 and 2014-15 APS calendars. For the upcoming school years, the district plans to return to a single school calendar.

The data gathered through this survey, which will be open through October, will assist the APS Calendar Committee in designing a calendar that meets the requirements of state law, that supports student attendance and achievement, and that considers the preferences of families.

And next week, the and Grady PTSA Open House will take place on Tuesday, September 18, at 6 p.m. in the school's theater.

Join fellow parents and friends to meet the faculty and staff at this year’s first PTSA meeting in the theatre and follow your student’s class schedule immediately after the meeting. During brief informational sessions, teachers will personally answer questions about their course content, resources, expectations and homework.
Be mindful that the purpose of Open House is to give parents an overview of their student’s classes. Individual conferences should be scheduled for a later date.
