Midtown Photography Student Honored

A quick peek and some school news to use.

Woodward Academy senior and Midtown resident Kayla Alexander was recently selected as a finalist by Photographer's Forum magazine in the 32nd Annual College & High School Photography Contest, sponsored by Nikon, USA.

More than 17,700 photographs were received from students in the U.S., Canada and around the world. A gallery of those honored can be found here

Congratulations to senior Chantil B. Coleman on her selection as The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Atlanta 2012 Atlanta Youth of the Year Award winner.

Coleman, a nine-year member of the Bellwood Boys & Girls Club, maintains a 3.6 GPA and ranks 25th out her class of 349. Once Coleman completes high school, she wants to attend the University of New York and major in entertainment law and minor in communications.

The award recognizes youths who have demonstrated good character traits, exceptional community involvement, outstanding service to others, noteworthy accomplishments and the ability to overcome personal obstacles. She received a plaque, a $1000 gift certificate for school supplies, and has moved on to compete against other Boys & Girls Club members for the State Level Youth of the Year Award. Finally, rising high school students are encouraged to submit an application for the ’s (ACFB) 6th annual Youth Summit on Hunger and Poverty coming this summer.

The ACFB will be selecting 40 students from high schools across metro Atlanta to participate in this hands-on experience that is a great way to gain knowledge about hunger and poverty issues, make new friends and learn how to make a difference in your community and beyond.

There will be two, four-day sessions, one in June and one in July, hosting 20 students per session. There is no cost to participate - just a willing mind, body and heart. Applications are due April 13. Get all the details and download the application here.
