School Checklist: Remaining 2012 Grady Cluster Dates

CINS' community meeting on Wednesday will feature discussions focused on the state's common core performance standards and how they will impact teaching and learning in APS classrooms.

The Council of Intown Neighborhoods and Schools (CINS), the Atlanta nonprofit that advocates for the Grady schools cluster, has a calendar full of important dates these final weeks of 2012 including Wednesday's monthly community meeting.

CINS’ community meetings are always free and open to the public. Please feel free to bring your own brown bag lunch and come and join others who are interested in the success of the Grady cluster. To become a member or add your name to the CINS’ eblast list, click here.

CINS’ will hold its November community meeting on Wednesday at Lin Elementary School, located at 586 Candler Park Drive. The 8:30 a.m. meeting will focus on: “Implementation of the Georgia Common Core Performance Standards & State Assessments”

Georgia is one of 47 states that helped develop the core standards for K-12 in English language arts and mathematics (referred to as the “CCGS” in Georgia). These standards are intended to provide a consistent framework throughout the nation to prepare students for success in college and/or the 21st century workplace.

Last year, CINS hosted a community meeting to hear from the Georgia Department of Education and APS how these standards will impact teaching and learning in APS classrooms in the way of curriculum; how they align to the current Georgia Performance Standards; and what will happen to Accelerated Math? Join CINS as we continue this discussion with APS about its progress in implementing the CCGS in APS schools. Questions, as always, are permitted as time allows.

The final CINS’ Community Meeting of the year will be on Dec. 12 at Springdale Park Elementary School. The program - “APS’ Human Resources – Hiring, Staffing, Leveling and Professional Development” - is scheduled to begin at noon.
